A Very Brief Reflection.

Here I am, sitting at home on the eve of Christmas Eve listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack (embarrassingly enough...whatev, I love it and we are talking Michael Crawford here, people, not Gerard Butler...) and as I do, I begin the reflect of the year 2009, that will be coming to a close in a week.

2009 was the year I started my first blog. And it happened to be about Zachary Quinto's Eyebrows. A trivial, frivolous thing to dedicate a whole blog to, but I know I surely enjoyed writing it. I really, really connected with Quinto for some reason. Maybe it was his quirk, his lank, his Spock, his tortured evil Sylar. He struck me. And I think if something strikes you, moves you, makes you feel something, it's worth dedicating a blog to.

Oh, well. I don't feel for a second that my writing on this blog has been a waste of time AT ALL. It's fun to write about a cute boy. It was when I was a tween, teen, and it still is.

Oh, Slash....

It's been far, far too long, friends. But, I do have a little something to share with you. I listened to this, and just about bust a gut.

http://io9.com/5430785/zachary-quinto-fulfills-your-trek-slash-fantasies

Please, please take the time to listen to it. It's dirty and weird, and oddly edited, but HI-larious.

Also, I watched Inglorious Basterds this weekend with my Mother. She loves Tarantino. Her favorite movies are the Kill Bill films (mostly because she is a bad-ass blonde looking for revenge.)

Anyway, why did none of you tell my ZQ's hot, muscly brother was in it?

OMG, I think I'm in love...

I know by trade, Eli Roth is a filmmaker, but I have never seen any of his movies, because...I hear there is a blowtorch to the face in one of them, I don't know if I could handle that.

Hey, Happy Holidays!

Best. Halloween. Costume. EVER.

First of all, Happy Halloween!

My dear, dear Kristi absolutely killed me tonight.

My sister was throwing a big 'ol Halloween party night, and Kristi was keeping her Halloween costume a secret...from me...and seemingly only me...for some reason. I even grilled my sister Cori to please tell me, she was like, "Nope, not gonna." And let me tell you, for Cori to keep a secret well, that's impressive, especially from me. We tell each other everything. Seriously, don't tell one of us something unless you want the other one to know.

Well, Kristi walked in the door.

She was not Spock. She was not Sylar. She was Zachary Quinto.

(see pic to the right, obvs.)

It was phenomenal. The most perfectly put together costume I have seen. And I wasn't the only one who got it, either. A few other guests got it too (they know what rabid fans we are.)

It was amazing. Bravo, Kristi. Job well done!

Oh, and this is me gnawing on her eyebrows. We all know how nom-able ZQ's are!

Spock: Child Size

I thought I would share this all with you. Today my delightful step-son had his Halloween parade (we live in Anoka, MN, which is the Halloween Capital of the World, in case you didn't know. Therefore it's all about civic pride, parades (3 total) and all kinds of fun stuff the last week in October in my 'hood.) Quinn, on his own, chose his costume.

He chose to be Spock.

It was a nightmare trying to find a child sized Spock costume! We finally got our hands on one. It was a little big for him, but it didn't matter.

Here is a quick funny story. We sent him to school this morning with all his costume gear, uniform and ears. I was a little worried that he would forget to put his ears on. I tell my mother this concern while we are waiting for his school to march by, Mom says, "Well, if he doesn't put his ears on he can just be...what's the name of the actor that plays Spock?" I laugh, "Heh, Zachary Quinto." "Yeah, if he doesn't have his ears he can just say his Zachary Quinto." I laughed so hard at that for more reasons than one. Mom must of like the response she got from me because she kept making that joke, and I would die laughing every time.

Alas, the ears prevailed. Behold the pics below. Oh, and he tied his coat around his waist because the pants were too big. Heh.

Serial Monogamy

Hi Friends! I know last time I promised not to be so neglectful, but I have had a hard time keeping my word. But, here I am, so let's catch up, shall we?

Mj so correctly pointed out on my Facebook page that I am a serial monogamist when it comes to my actor boyfriend. This summer, Zachary and I had a torrid, passionate affair that lasted through my birthday, through the fourth of July, through my sister's wedding, into the dog days, those waning August days....the days got a little shorter, the night air was a little crisper... I was planning on spending the fall with Zach, maybe going apple-picking, perhaps a drive through the country to see the foliage turn....but about mid-September my heart was stolen away from him....and if you are a regular reader of this blog, you know by who.

Wentworth and I are currently in the midst of a hot and heavy nightly affair. I can't decided if my love for him burns as hotly as it did for ZQ, it's a different kind of burn, I guess. But, I haven't lost all interest in my Zachary, oh, heaven's no. But, I have noticed that my heart doesn't race like it used to when he is mentioned on Perez or JustJared. I smile, remembering him fondly, like an ex whom we had a friendly break-up with. I read about him, all the good things hes doing in the world, participating in a charitble acts, going to concerts, representing his Star Trek family at less popular award shows...and yes, trudging through the latest season of Heroes.

Oh, Zachary...it's good to see you. How have you been?

Why can't my passion burn as strongly as it did a mere few months ago before WM entered the picture? I guess it's why I can't, you know...cheat on my husband. It simply wouldn't be right! I have morals, you know...this isn't an open relationship!

I am waiting for ZQ to steal my heart back. I do think my love for him is stronger. I mean, you don't see a blog dedicated solely to Wentworth Miller written by me anywhere, do you?

In the meantime, friends, I give you Zorn.

Beautiful Broken Boys

It's the characters that I love. Not the men who play them. I don't know the men who play them, and if I did, I don't know if I would even like them. They might be jerks, or our personalities may clash. Let's say, hypothetically, I worked with Zachary Quinto. Let's say, he happened to ...be one of the guys in the lab at the clinic I work at. Ok, I would think he was adorable, no doubt, and from what I have been able to piece together about his personality, the way he dressed (the way a person dresses speaks volumes about them, I think) the way he conducts himself in interviews, he seems funny and disarming...slightly sarcastic, very charming, a little quirky...I think I would like him in reality very much. Maybe too much. I would probably laugh a little too loud at his jokes, you know, that type of awkwardness. I would think he was nice and sweet (if he is) and that would be the end of it.

Maybe because we are privy to more information about characters on a television show then we are about the people in our day-to-day lives (and, fictional characters can sometimes be more interesting than realy people....but again, is that because we know more about fictional characters than our real-life co-workers, neighbors, friends and family?) All the male characters I am attracted to on television shows have elements of tragedy, of sadness (all the female characters I love? Liz Lemon, et al.) It must be a wanting to take care of a broken man. Maybe it all began with my mad love affair with Trent Reznor when I was 15. His lyrics were all broken sadness, misdirected rage. Him, I wanted to take care of. Is it a maternal instinct? I don't think so. I am a mother-figure to an eight year old boy, and I don't want him to ever be broken, to ever be sad, I want him to be a strong independent young man who can make choices for himself. I want to take care of him, but in the way that I mother cares for a child. Make sure he is fed, clothed, happy, healthy, safe and smart.

Even the man I have chosen to spend the rest of my life with, my husband, Jim. I don't need to take care of him, he takes care of me if anything (this, however, comes down to a birth order thing I do believe. I am a younger sibling, I have always had my big sister to take care of me, he is an older sibling, he has always had to take care of his younger brother...plus Jim's nearly ten years older than me...we did get into it the other day a little when I snapped, "You know, when you talk to me sometimes it sounds like your talking to a child." he was getting a little over-explain-y about things, but that's another story) Jim is a capable man, and like any adult, he does have his emotional battle wounds, but he is, mentally, emotionally, very strong.

So, why Sylar? Why someone like Wentworth Miller's character, Michael, on "Prison Break"? These are both sad, broken men. Sylar is a killer, Michael is basically a reverse sociopath (if that makes any sense) I was thinking about this today, what attracts me to these kind of characters. They can be heartbreaking, but it's something about them.

Maybe it's the actors. Sylar and Michael could both easily come across as big ol' whiny babies, or totally repulsive, but I think these actors have really struck a beautiful balance. Especially ZQ, he has quite a lot on his plate. Not only does he have fantastical super-powers, he always has very real issues. Lack of identity, lack of self-worth, lack of belonging anywhere, and the character really took this to heart, and it came out in a very horrifying, homicidal way. This character could have come across ridiculous and comical, but Zachary manages to take it seriously, and therefore the character is taken seriously, even in ver un-real situations.

I won't get into the specifics of the "Prison Break" character because this blog isn't called "Wentworth Miller's Awesome Bone Structure" but, just know, he is a very selfless character, and somewhat broken.

I think about this, but then on the other hand, I think about my All Time Favorite Male Television Character, the one character that I love so much I bestowed his name upon my cat, Ryan O'Reily from "Oz." Now, this man is broken, hate-filled, rageful, sad, ...but he has more humor in his pinkie than Sylar and Michael have combined. And he's ruthless, and really doesn't care about anyone, including himself. This is all very appealing.

In the end, it is the characters. Even in the most primal sense. Do I wanna make out with Zachary Quinto? No, I wanna make out with Sylar (and Spock) Do I wanna make out with Wentworth Miller? No, I wanna make out with Michael Scofield.

And isn't that what life is really about? Who we really wanna make out with?

Oh, and why, yes, I have figured out the link feature. I missed you, Blogger!
